"Her own computer in the shop, our rector Gail asked if she could use mine to attend an online baptism. She had a role in the service as a sponsor for the baptismal candidate. I was both glad to oblige and mystified. How could anyone be baptized online? I imagined a minister in Milwaukee dipping his hand in the font and resting it on a fifteen-inch monitor while a candidate in Santa Fe touched her forehead to a screen and tried to experience virtual wetness. Cyber-cool? Definitely. Sacramental? Not...."
